Astrophysics in the Physics Classroom using NASA resource material (05 Jun 2026)

Grade level: Teachers of high school (including physics first).

Finish out the school year with a workshop focusing on what NASA wants high school physics students to know about astrophysics. From the AAPT - NASA - HEAT collaborative website www.aapt.org/Resources/nasa_heat.cfm exploration will center on stars, our sun, and heliophysics as applications of physics. This website was created by NASA scientists for teachers to add in-class exercises regarding astrophysics to their physics courses. Included in presentation: 6 simulated stars using colored bead bags fully explained to take away. Also - free NASA posters, bookmarks, and stickers will be available.

Presenter: Dr. Anne Tabor-Morris, a trained "ambassador" of the program will lead.

Open mic at the end for anyone who wants to share about their own demos or learning modules in any area of physics after the presentation. (Arrive at least half hour early to set up and get on the schedule).

Certificates for attendance and professional development for NJ teachers will be given.
