MAKE & TAKE + DISCUSSION ON GRADING & ASSESSMENT PRACTICES
Bring demos and ideas back to your classroom next year !
This workshop will have 3 demos for you to Make & Take, plus a discussion of ideas on Grading & Assessment Practices.
The demos include a "Zube Tube" for sound, a resonance demonstrator, and a 1-2-3 Mirror Demo. The demos will be presented and assembled. Take them with you, and add them to your repertoire!
NOTE: please bring a pair of safety glasses or goggles for yourself. We will have student goggles available, but you may prefer your own pair! There's nothing dangerous at the workshop, but this is just for protection when we work with a stretched spring! Just being safe! If you don't have safety glasses, please indicate this on your registration, and we'll have student goggles available.
In addition, there will be a discussion about Grading & Assessment Practices -- which is rarely discussed as much as other topics in education -- Why do we grade the way we do? Are the grades that students receive an authentic measure of their actual learning? Are there changes in assessment structure that can help students learn Physics? Bring your questions/issues that you face when it comes to Grading and Assessment practices in your school/classroom, as well as ideas that have worked for you to give grades that reflect learning.
