Come sail away on the scenic Shrewsbury River & Bay off Patten Avenue in Long Branch on a Wednesday evening (or other arranged time) through Aug 28. You are invited to join fellow NJAAPT members Martin Dempsey mdempsey99@hotmail.com and Phil Falcone pffalcone@gmail.com for a 2 1/2-hour sailing experience on 18-foot Americans or Harpoons as we traverse the diverse and interesting Shrewsbury River & Bay. Please email us for information, scheduling and directions. We're available to sail most Wednesday evenings 5p-7:30p through August 28th, though we can try to accommodate other times. You are welcome to bring a guest. The usual $15 donation per person is waived, so there is no cost to you. We have adult size PFDs to loan out to be worn onboard. The 18-foot sailboats, each accommodating six passengers, are among vessels owned by the local chapter of SEAS (Society for the Education of American Sailors) https://sailseas.com/Monmouth/ where Martin and Phil are members and skippers, and also volunteer many hours for annual boat maintenance. Our SEAS organization is fully insured and requires only that participants sign a liability waiver. Besides being NJ-certified physics teachers, Martin and Phil are trained sailing instructors, assisting in SEAS volunteer-taught Basic Sailing classes offered through Brookdale Community College during June, July and August sessions. See https://ce.brookdalecc.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1021733 for an overview. Martin and Phil look forward to providing you with hands-on sailing experience along with some discussion of the physics of sailing including buoyancy; center of mass; water and wind forces on sails, hull, centerboard/keel and rudder; some fluids; knots, etc.
