The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) has announced that Debbie Stephanie Andres is the 2022 recipient of the Doc Brown Futures Award.

This honor recognizes early-career AAPT members who demonstrate excellence in physics education and exhibit the potential to serve in an AAPT leadership role based on their contributions to the organization.

Please see Debbie Andres' full CV and additional details of the  Doc Brown Futures Award at  https://www.aapt.org/aboutaapt/Debbie-Stephanie-Andres-Named-as-2022-Recipient-of-the-Doc-Brown-Futures-Award.cfm web page.

"I am incredibly grateful to be the recipient of this award. The members of AAPT have helped me grow as a physics educator and encouraged me to lead and share my voice. I hope to continue to help this organization grow by introducing more high school teachers to the many opportunities AAPT has given me." said Andres.

Ms. Andres earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Ed.M. in Science Education K-12 at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ, also graduating from the physics teacher preparation program in 2016. Since 2016 Ms. Andres has taught freshman physics and AP Physics 2 at Paramus High School, along with coaching and providing professional development for other teachers. Additionally Ms. Andres has been involved in various engineering research and physics education research projects.

Join Prof. Lindenfeld Sunday October 24 at 4 pm for a Zoom discussion of his book "Fragments of Time". Register at https://peterlindenfeldfragmentsoftime.eventbrite.com

Lindenfeld's book traces his life from a secure childhood in pre-WW2 Vienna, then fleeing the Nazis in 1938, to ultimately finding a home pursuing science amidst educational and social change in which he played a role as a political and social activist often going against the grain of established rules.

A member of NJAAPT for many decades, he also taught courses for teachers here and in India, seeing himself as a bridge between the communities of high school teachers and colleges. In 1989 Lindenfeld received AAPT's Millikan award. He is co-writing a textbook for introductory physics called 'Physics: The First Science'.

Now on the second Thursday of every month, join other NJAAPT members to talk about how teaching and learning are going. Share your successes! Commiserate about your struggles! We want to hear how it's going in your classroom: virtual, hybrid, or in-person. What (other than a winning lottery ticket or a magic wand) would make your teaching easier?
