Regarding the Catapult: we were wondering how will the judges make sure that only up to 30 cm of masking tape was used.

Would it work if we asked the teams to assemble their design with a given amount of tape during the event? Current instructions allow teams to bring the design fully or partially built.

Or, are we going to weigh each team's device at the event? In that case, is it the total mass that counts?

We are planning to mass each device before the competition. To save time, we request that the device be brought assembled to the event.

COFFEE CAN RACER QUESTION -- submitted via email:

Question:   We had a question about the coffee can racer. Are the students allowed to cut off the bottom of the can and have things coming out from the inside of the can to help slow it down? As long as it does not touch the ramp itself?

Answer:   It's OK, according to the rules, just make sure you read the rules carefully.
