Join an in-person gathering at the Horn Antenna in Holmdel NJ on Saturday April 20th, 2024 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Breakfast and lunch at the adjacent iconic Bell Works building (formerly Bell Labs) is included in your $60 registration. See link below to register.
Participate in the ribbon-cutting by Holmdel's mayor and a close-up look at the Horn Antenna, celebrating the success of a petition drive resulting in Holmdel Township buying the land and the antenna, with plans to turn the land into a public park and education center.
The day concludes with presentations by physicist Sarbmeet Kanwal and others on the momentous accidental discovery in 1964 by two radio astronomers, Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson working at Bell Labs trying to reduce 'noise' in phone transmissions. Penzias and Wilson discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR) that provided evidence that the universe did indeed start as a fiery ball, smaller than a grain of sand, exploding in a Big Bang.
