Question regarding the Pringles event: Are students allowed to alter the ziploc bag? And could the ziploc bag have other items besides the two Pringles?

Neither may the plastic bag containing the chips be altered nor may anything be added to the plastic bag other than the two chips.

I have a question regarding the due date for the Pringles event. Is there any way the package receiving date could be made a week (or two) later? We are just now introducing the events to our students. As a result, we will not be able to intro the event, have them test the package, send their package to us, identify the winners, then have the top two winners send their packages to you by 12/4. We are in the north section so these will be mailed to John.

Regarding the Pringles event: is it okay for students to mark their package "Fragile" when shipping?

Also, is there a restriction on the size of the ziploc bag?

Regarding the Cartesian Diver Event: Are teams judged by the amount of time taken as well? Wouldn't there be too many ties otherwise?

And if a team decides to tilt the bottle, they loose 50 points. If they tilt the bottle more than 45 degrees, the team will be disqualified. Did I interpret that correctly?

Replying to question 3810298: Yes, it is OK to mail later. No penalty but with this condition: We set the date to give us ( John Valente for North Jersey and Nancy Michaelsen for South Jersey) time to receive the package and respond back to the team that we received it in reasonable visual shape. If a team does not receive a confirmation email from either of us after a few days past the due date, they need to contact us. If we do not receive the package by the due date, then the team will have time to remake and mail again. This takes time. The longer a team takes to mail the package after the due date, the more of a chance that they take that we will not receive a package in time for the Olympics. Last time, a team spent $20 to mail special delivery overnight return receipt requested. Unfortunately, the package arrive on the day of the event. The team forfeited this event. It is up to you to decide how to mail your entree but, if you mail early (by the due date) then no need for special delivery and, since we will respond back to you when the package is received, no need to pay for return receipt requested.

Reply to question 8105538: The rules do not prohibit the use of the word fragile marked on the mailing box.

For the zip-lock (plastic) bag, sandwich, quart or gallon size may be used.

Replying to the Cartesian diver event: The tie-breaker rule was inadvertently not included in the rules. You are correct: as a tie-breaker the team that completes the event in the least amount of time will win.

The team may tilt the bottle up to 45 degrees without penalty. If they tilt greater than 45 degrees, the team will be disqualified.

Also, concerning the Cartesian Diver event, there is an error in rule b, competition & scoring. The rule states that three (3) bottles will be used. It should have stated that up to three (3) bottles will be used. Please correct.

...Three (3) one-liter plastic soda bottles filler with water and containing a hooked sinker will be placed on a table.

TO

...Up to three (3) one-liter plastic soda bottles filler with water and containing a hooked sinker will be placed on a table.

On the day of the Olympics, a decision will be made by the judge(s) on how many bottles to uses.
